Organisation
"A lack of transparency results in distrust and a deep sense of insecurity" – Dalai Lama
We are a team full of innovators and that is why we want to maintain a flat organisation. This means that you have more freedom than in a traditional organisation, but also more responsibility.
We trust you. We trust each other. We trust you to perform your work in the best possible way. You are the best person to say what works for you and have the freedom to exercise it.
We want to support you in your journey of professional growth and make sure that nothing is holding you down. And when we say we - that includes you, too, since you are now a part of us.
Compensation model
We pay people based on their value - not on their years of experience. This is not to undermine professionals with a long background in the industry. We simply acknowledge the fact that the amount of value one produces is not directly correlated with the amount of experience in years. If we hired you, we believe that you have valuable skills and input which can help us grow as a team.
Our compensation model has been designed to be fair and transparent to all team members. Both pay and benefits can be discussed as an open forum. You can also order gadgets or fun stuff for the office. We aim for a fair model which leaves enough room for growth but also channels money back to the people who make our operation possible.
We offer the same benefits to everyone: the very same you can find listed under our Benefits section in this guide. If you feel that we should offer a benefit we don't yet have, bring it up. The benefits are decided by everyone. Being a flat organization allows us to offer better transparency and more trust - and our view is that this also makes for a better, more equal working environment.
Feedback
If your previous employers have been large organisations, you may be used to setting up vaguely specific goals and having bi-annual performance reviews. We don't work that way at Zensei. We want to support you in meeting your goals, but we also trust you to keep record of your goals. Instead of recognising your achievements in performance reviews, we encourage open feedback in our daily work. We already know you are great at what you do - and we will remind you of it when we work together. This works both ways, so remember to give feedback to your colleagues!
We strive for clear and open communication: our goal is to encourage everyone to share their input and collaborate so we can grow together. In order to maintain our transparent environment, everyone needs to practice transparency.
Being open about how things work, the projects we are working on and what plans we have for the future enables us to improve our way of working together. We want everyone to feel that they know who we are, where we are, what we do and how we do it. The only way to do that is to make sure that important things are discussed as an open forum - no secret meetings.
